SpellBond

Parent – Child Spelling Bee Competition – 2027 Edition

Parent-Child SpellBond: a global competition affiliated with the World English Council, bringing live and online spelling challenges to audiences everywhere – through two formats, starting with Parent-Child Opens.

01 · Adult Open

For people who thought spelling bees ended with school.

Designed for adult participants from varied backgrounds — students, professionals, founders, educators, specialists and anyone who likes the peculiar satisfaction of getting a difficult word exactly right.

  • Live, hosted and competitive
  • Built for participation and spectatorship
  • Event-specific rules published before registration
  • Difficulty shaped for an adult audience
02 · Parent + Child Open

Two generations. One shared challenge.

A public competition where the experience belongs to the team, not one person while the other watches. The design balances participation so parent and child both matter to the moment.

  • Parent-child team participation
  • Designed around shared decision-making
  • Eligibility defined per announced event
  • Family-friendly without feeling childish
What to expect

The surprise is part of the experience.

We publish enough for you to know what you are signing up for — eligibility, timing, venue, registration terms and the rules you need — without turning the live competition into something you can rehearse from a webpage.

1

Clear entry information

Every listing will state who can participate, how registration works and what participants need to know beforehand.

2

Hosted live experience

The event is designed as something to watch and react to, not only a sequence of turns at a microphone.

3

Fair challenge

Competition design, judging and participant instructions are structured to make the outcome credible as well as entertaining.

4

Event-specific character

Public events may vary by city, venue, audience size and theme rather than following one rigid template.

Rules for SpellBond – Parent-Child Spelling Bee Competition

How to Participate?

  • Register your parent-child team online through the official registration link
  • Select your preferred category based on your child’s grade
  • Complete payment to confirm your spot
  • Confirmation and further instructions will be sent via email

1. Eligibility

  • One team = one parent/guardian (aged 18+) and one child (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, academic year 2026–2027)
  • A parent may register with only one child per competition cycle
  • Valid ID and age/grade proof must be provided at registration or on request

2. Team Format

  • Both parent and child are official team members and may be called upon to spell during different rounds
  • Only the team member whose turn it is may spell; the other member may not prompt, mouth letters, or assist during that turn
  • Team roles (who spells in which round) are defined by the round format, not chosen freely by the team

3. Word Presentation

  • Words will be read aloud clearly by an official pronouncer
  • Teams may request: the word’s definition, its use in a sentence, its language of origin, or a repeat of the word – each only once per word
  • The team must begin spelling within the specified time limit (typically 30–60 seconds) after the word is given

4. Spelling Rules

  • Words must be spelled aloud, letter by letter, in a clear and audible voice
  • Once a letter is spoken, it cannot be changed; once the team indicates they are finished, the spelling is final
  • Misspelling, skipping a letter, or exceeding the time limit results in an elimination point (per the strike system below)

5. Marking, Strike / Elimination System

  • Combined scoring – Marks are calculated by combining the parent’s and child’s scores together, though each is given a separate, independent set of spellings
  • Grade-based difficulty – The child’s spelling words are set according to their school class/grade for the 2026–2027 academic year
  • Teams are eliminated after 3 strikes (incorrect spellings)
  • Strike counts may reset at the start of each round, depending on the competition stage
  • Judges’ and pronouncer’s decisions are final in all cases of disputed spelling or pronunciation

Questions

Public competition basics.

Public events are planned in two categories: adults and parent-child teams. The precise eligibility for a particular event will be published with its registration details.

SpellBond is intended as an India-wide format. We will publish locations only after venues and dates are confirmed rather than announcing speculative cities.

Each event listing will include the rules participants need to prepare and compete fairly. The website will not reveal every live mechanic or production detail.

Yes. Corporate, campus, association and family-event bookings are handled separately. Use the Book an Event page to start that conversation.
